The Kalapnathsing Family, who moved into their newly built home at Hòfi Sint Joris in June 2023. At that time, only a handful of people lived in the community. Much of the surrounding area was still covered in sand and rocks, the roads had yet to be constructed, and there were no facilities. Access to the development was through a gate secured with a padlock.

As some of the community’s first residents, the family has experienced the development of Hòfi Sint Joris up close from the very beginning. Over the following three years, the surroundings have changed step by step. Today, approximately 25 lots are permanently occupied, and the neighborhood is increasingly taking on the character of an established residential community.

From Construction Site to Residential Community

The family has witnessed the transformation firsthand. The arrival of infrastructure and community amenities, in particular, has made a significant difference. In 2023, the area was largely defined by construction activity, unpaved roads and a handful of homes. Today, all roads have been paved and street lighting has been installed. Large trees and bougainvillea have been planted, while a growing range of sports facilities has been added. The new padel court was especially good news for their son. The soccer field has also become a regular part of daily life. And their daughter is particularly looking forward to the climbing structures that will be installed soon.

As the number of residents continues to grow, so does the way the neighborhood is experienced. Morning walks and runs now regularly include greetings exchanged with other residents and staff. Walkers and cyclists use the roads, while in the late afternoon residents increasingly gather around the sports facilities.

Daily Life

Despite the arrival of various amenities, the natural surroundings continue to play an important role in the family’s daily life. Mornings begin with birdsong and the sound of the wind coming through the shutters. Although construction activity is still clearly audible during the day, it is often accompanied by the sounds of nature. An iguana in the garden or a hermit crab clinging to a screen has become a familiar sight for the Kalapnathsing family.

When the wind is favorable, kites can be seen above the bay from Hòfi Sint Joris. As the afternoon progresses, construction activity gradually winds down and residents return home, changing the atmosphere throughout the neighborhood. While the construction sites become quieter, activity on the sports fields picks up. According to the family, it is precisely this combination of ongoing development and the tranquility of the surroundings that defines living at Hòfi Sint Joris.

Experiencing the Development Up Close

The story of the Kalapnathsing family illustrates how much Hòfi Sint Joris has changed in just three years. They moved into an area that was still largely under construction and have watched the neighborhood develop into a community where an increasing number of people live permanently and make use of the facilities.

At the same time, development is still ongoing. Construction work will continue in the coming period, with further improvements being implemented in line with the growing number of residents. As a result, the everyday character of Hòfi Sint Joris will continue to evolve. After three years, the Kalapnathsing family still considers their decision to make Hòfi Sint Joris their home the right one. Their conclusion is short and clear: “E bida ta dushi.”
